January 15th_Homework_Wk1_class2

Hello there!
As I said in the email yesterday, scanning your images into the copier may not be sufficient/yield clear imagery. Since scanning left me with sub-par copies, I ended up taking photos of my drawings instead. You can see these examples on the drive in my folder in the class resources folder if you want to know how they turned out. Please get used to uploading all your work after every class.

DIGITAL SKETCHBOOK
The digital sketchbook is your opportunity to prove to me that you have been trying in class and ON YOUR OWN to practice getting good at making caricatures. If you upload nothing, you will prove to me that you have not committed yourself and you have done no work out of class. That leaves the power in your hands and I feel that is very fair.

As for the reading below...
These readings will give you insight into the history and development of satire and caricature. Although we will discuss some of these things in class, it is up to you to look at things ahead of time so that you understand the ways in which these art forms have developed. Interestingly, this type of insight can help you improve faster as you will be seeing examples of other artists' work and not reinventing the wheel with your own work. If you do not make the effort, you may be lost when it comes to being innovative later on.

ABOUT HOMEWORK
Please do what is listed below and understand two things in regard to drawing:
1. You will only be as good at making caricatures as you commit to practicing them
2. You will likely not improve if you do not practice outside of classes

HOMEWORK
Select a public figure
Search for a public figure to focus on for the semester. It is okay if you have a couple for now but work on narrowing your choices down by the fourth week. Remember, pick someone who is making waves and creating headlines in the news so that you have written information and photo information to work with.

Upload your class sketches to your digital sketchbook
